Seaside is an indie-rock band from Byron Bay, Australia. Their debut LP Desiderata, released in October 2025, is a powerful indie/alt-rock record exploring themes of love, heartbreak, addiction and grief. We caught up with the band to talk their debut LP Desiderata, songwriting, and life as a band.
The B-Side Hour: Desiderata is your first LP: how did the process of making a full album differ from writing and releasing EPs or singles?
Seaside: Making a record should be like writing chapters in a book. The idea is to carry a listener through the whole album by the end they understand you better. Stand alone singles and EP’s are often more a test of sound and style, to see if it resonates with an audience.
The B-Side Hour: Were there moments during the creative process where the album took a surprising turn from your original plan?
Seaside: Not really – we recorded the record in blocks over a year so perhaps track listing at the end was the surprise as the concept and flow of the record fell into place.
The B-Side Hour: If the album were the soundtrack for a movie or a show, which would it be?
Seaside: Some kind of coming-of-age road trip movie that has a thriller ending. Maybe Fear with Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon.
The B-Side Hour: How do you know when a song is ready?
Seaside: You can overcook a song endlessly with layers and ideas. Maybe it’s just when you get in a room together and play it as a group and feel like nothing is missing.
The B-Side Hour: How did Seaside first come together, and what made you realize this was something worth committing to?
Seaside: We enjoy each other’s company and write well together without ego, and we trust each other on stage to perform without worry.
The B-Side Hour: What roles do each of you naturally fall into within the band, both creatively and personally?
Seaside: The whole band writes and our drummer sorts the back end.
The B-Side Hour: What’s something you’re still figuring out as artists?
Seaside: A sound that we like to play versus a sound that our listeners desire to listen at home.
The B-Side Hour: What part of being on tour do you enjoy most?
Seaside: Playing live of course. The travel and waiting around sucks but hanging with your friends and meeting new people is the best!
The B-Side Hour: Do you have a band ritual before going on stage or in the studio?
Seaside: Couple of shots and a stretch.
The B-Side Hour: If you had to introduce Seaside with just one song from your entire discography, which would it be?
Seaside: Big Sky.
