OVERVIEW

Don't Speak introduces Austin alt-rock band Culture Wars with a debut album that wears its emotions on its sleeves. Across twelve ttracks, the record navigates heartbreak, uncertainty, loneliness and desire, capturing the push and pull of relationships that are difficult to hold onto and even harder to leave behind.

Alex Dugan delivers strong vocal performances throughout, while driving drums, prominent bass lines and soaring electric guitars give the record a constant sense of momentum. Whether leaning into melancholic reflection or explosive release, the album balances polished production with raw, cathartic energy.

At its core, Don't Speak is an album about connection in all its forms — wanting someone back, struggling to let go, falling into destructive patterns, and searching for comfort in fleeting moments of intimacy. 'Typical Ways' delves into cycles of self-sabotage, while 'Heaven', 'Miley', and 'In The Morning' reflect on physical connection as a temporary remedy to loneliness.

Even when the record reaches its most explosive moments, it emotional honesty remains front and center, making for a debut that feels both personal and instantly relatable.

STANDOUT TRACKS

(Tokyo)

Blending acoustic and electric guitars with steady drums and bass, the track captures the ache of a relationship that is over but still vividly present. A persistent sense of longing runs throughout, giving the song a nostalgic weight that sits alongside a strong melodic core and a memorable chorus.

'Sun in your eyes, but I still can't get you off my mind

And I will go blind, but I still can't get you off my mind' - (Tokyo)

Slowly

A cathartic breakup track built on soaring guitars, steady bass and powerful drums. It acknowledges heartbreak and disappointement while still holding onto the pull of what was losr, even to the point of being willing to relive the experience. Equal parts aching and anthemic, it captures the difficulty of release when attachment lingers.

'I'd do it all again to taste your love' - Slowly

It Hurts

A deceptively upbeat exploration of emotional pain hidden behind carefully maintained appearances. Lyrics like 'It hurts too good to swallow" suggest a love-hate relationship with suffering that has become strangely familiar and almost comforting.

Lies

Closing the album on a note of resignation, 'Lies' explores the aftermath of betrayal and the erosion of trust. As deception accumulates, the focus shifts away from uncovering truth toward the realization that the damage is already irreversible.

'You keep on lying

Don't want to know, don't want to stay' - Lies
